Mens Breakfast

On Saturday, September 4th, we had men's breakfast at the Church. It was a holiday weekend so attendance was a little low. If you weren't there guys, you missed a lot of great food. Be sure to come next month and enjoy the food and fellowship. And eat so much you have trouble getting up out of your chair. I know that from experience.

Dinner Club Selection Night

A good crowd showed up on Sunday night for the kick off of dinner clubs. Everyone brought their food in and set it up on the tables.
Tony explained how everything would work for the evening, said a prayer, then it was time to eat!
The crowd lined up quickly to get to the delicious food.
Guess who was at the front of the line to get food.
The line moved quickly. We snacked off the dessert table while we waited.

That's what I'm talkin' about!

Everyone ate till we were full and then the ladies drew names to determine what groups we would be in.
If you missed the sign up you can still join a dinner club group. Just talk to someone at Church and they will get you signed up.

Helping Our Missionaries

There is a couple from our Church who will be heading to Ecuador to do mission work. There is a fund raiser at the Chick-fil-a in Waxahachie on August 1st. They get a dollar for every meal you buy. Pick up a voucher from them at the store before you order. They also have a web site so you can follow their work. Click this sentence to go to their site.

We had VBS a while back and I shot this video of some of the kids playing. They were trying to pop each others balloons. There is a great reaction at the end when a balloon finally does pop.

Saturday at Mission Fest

I had to work on Saturday so I didn't get to see a lot of the activities that day. I did run up after work and snap a few picture.

The 3-on-3 basketball tournament started about 10 that morning and the games where still going strong when I got there. If you think basketball is a non-contact sport you should have watched some of these games.
There were some good teams in the competition this year. I didn't hang around till the end so I can't tell you who won though.
The girls were playing at the other end of the court. I saw a couple of good match ups at that end too.
Now here is where all the action was! The 42 tournament was going on in the fellowship hall. The competition was as intense as the other events, just a lot less sweating.
And upstairs was the doubles racquetball tournament. You can run out of room real quick with 4 guys running around a racquetball court.

All in all it was a very successful two days of games. We got to share our facility with the community, raise some money for mission trip, and get lots of exercise. We are looking forward to many more events like this in the future.

Friday Night of Mission Fest

Friday night was the first day of Mission Fest 2009. All the participants checked in at the frount desk before all the games started.
Pastor Tony called everyone into the gym to greet them, thank them for coming, and to tell them the purpose of this facility and the Church. He then handed it over to Justin.
Justin ran the brackets and kept everything running smoothly. After he explained everything the games began!
The volleyball tournament was Friday and we had teams of all shapes and sizes entered. The Jr High girls team is in the picture above.
Here is an overview of the floor. With 2 games going on at the same time there was plenty of action to watch.
My wife wasn't planning on playing but got recruited onto a team so they would officially be Co-ed. That's her team on the far side of the net.
Of course, I hit the snack bar and got a Frito Chile Pie and a Dr Pepper. Ain't life good.
Upstairs the single racquetball tournament was going on. This looks like a fun game! I may have to try my hand at it someday.
Rick, in the white shirt, won the racquetball. The volleyball tournament was won by our youth minister, John E's and his team.

Dedication Sunday

We had a good crowd show up last Sunday for the Dedication Service. Pastor Tony preached a good sermon as usual. There were two videos shown during the service which you can watch on the next post down the page.

After the service the crowd moved into the hallways so the crew could set up all the tables for the meal.

There was plenty of food no matter which serving line you went through. I notice that Sean is already licking his fingers.

There were plenty of drinks and some yummy desserts. I had the banana pudding and it was wonderful!

I took too long taking pictures because the line stretched almost all the way down the back hall by the time I got there. But it moved fast and there was still plenty of food when I got to the front.

Lynne really liked the flower arrangement that was sitting on our table.

I guess people really like dessert.

We watched the movie "Fireproof" at Church this evening. We had a good crowd and there was popcorn for everyone to enjoy.

After the movie we served BBQ sandwiches to all who wanted to purchase one. The kids played in the gym after all the chairs were put away.

Well, since the contruction at the Church is pretty much over (there are still ongoing projects), I decided to change the name of this blog. When we have different activities and I remember my camera, I'll post those pictures here.

Disciple Now Weekend

There were over 100 kids signed up for the Disciple Now weekend at the new Church. They held their group meetings in the youth room and did other activities thru the day.

At night they all split up to spend the night in homes that were set to host them (and feed them).
They had lessons in the home groups before finally going to sleep and heading back to the Church the next day.
There were 4 kids that accepted Jesus as thier Savior over the weekend. That's what it's all about.

First Sunday in the New Building

Today was the first regular Sunday service in our new building. All the chairs were set up the night before in hopes that a large crowd would come. Before the service started they had to bring in even more chairs! The official count for the day was 496. Tony said that to a preacher, that's 500.
We started the service with a baptism. Jason Ramsey, the contractor for the building, baptised one of the workers who had been saved during construction. 25 workers accepted Christ during the construction of this building.
Tony preached a wonderful sermon, as usual. We were tweaking the sound system through out the entire service trying to get it to sound good. I hope we were successfull.
I didn't get upstairs to take a overview picture of the entire room. I was too busy running the computer and helping with the sound. But above is the right side...
and this is the left side. Everything worked fairly well. Only one thing didn't work. We couldn't get the audio to play on a video they wanted to show. Hopefully that will be fixed by next week.
Then it was time to eat! JohnE was excited about that. There was lots of food for everyone.
They set up the serving lines in the fellowship hall. After you got your food you would head out to eat in the lobby area or...
back in the gym. We quickly rolled out tables and moved the chairs around so everyone would have a place to sit. It was a great first Sunday! If you didn't make it, we hope to see you soon.

Moving Day!

After Sunday morning services, and lunch, we loaded up at the old Church...

and unloaded it all at the new Church!

Some people didn't handle the stress well.

The youth were still working on their room.

This is Coach Ellis' classroom all set up and ready to go.

Alot of the kids played ball.

I guess they finally got through the door.

OK, these pictures are NOT from our new Church. We had our new years family reunion at First Baptist Grandview today. These signs were in their hallway.
After giving a tour of our new Church to some family members, who kept wondering where they were, maybe we need signs like this at our new Church. My Dad said he could give us the name of the person who made these signs.

The Week Before Christmas

Pastor Tony has been asking when I'll get these pictures up, so here they are.

The front offices are coming along. Carpet is down and most of the ceiling tile is in. Office windows are in place.
The game room is all carpeted and ready to go.
The Fellowship Hall was full of stacks of chairs to be used for Sunday morning services.
The elevator has been finished out.
This is the adult classroom hallway. Just needs a little clean up to be ready for classes.
The basketball goals are up and the walls are carpeted in the gym.
Doors in the youth room are waiting to be installed.
Water fountains are in but not all of the plumbing is finished.
Stairs are carpeted.
The walking track upstairs is ready for people to start doing laps.

The sound system was being installed this day too. The amps and other equipment will be locked up backstage.

One of the air vents. There was discussion as to what color to paint them (some people think they are ugly). I think they should be painted the same color as the carpet so they will blend in and disappear. The last picture is the kitchen in the youth room.

Pictures From Last Week

It was dark when I got to the Church, but the parking lot has been paved and the sidewalk by the building put in.
This is just inside the frount door. All the tile is down in this area.
The elevator is going in. They already used it to carry things upstairs.
Alot of the rooms have the ceiling tile finished.
The doors are all stained and installed.
Floor tile is finished in the youth room.
The divider is up in the Childrens Church room.
A couple of the men were putting up ceiling tile in the nursery. That's Ted up top and JohnE below.
The bookcases have been installed in the offices.
They got a great deal on some exercise equipment, so it is sitting on the upper deck.
Windows are in the courts upstairs. They decided to make the doors smaller also.

Long Delayed Pictures

It's been awhile since I posted, I'll try to do better in the future. Above you can see that the tile in the fellowship hall has been finished.
The main electrical panel in the back room has been buttoned up. A lot of juice will flow trough here.
Many of the doors have been hung. These double doors lead into the youth room. Lynne still says she wants these doors.
The day I was there the AC crew was hooking up the controls to the AC units around the building. This is the control unit in the front utility room.
The baptistry has been framed in. You can see that she "dunker" stands behind and doesn't get into the water with the "dunkee".
And the glass doors have been installed at the front entrance. I'll post more soon.

We are working on pulling the wires to all the electric panels in the Church. They all originate in this utility room at the back of the building. The wires we ran Tuesday night are hanging to the left in this picture.
This is the other end of the 315 foot run we pulled Tuesday night.
The electric company came in on Wednesday and set the transformer behind the building.
These are the cables waiting to be installed Thursday night.
We laid the cables out into the hall from outside.
Here is the crew getting the cables ready for the first pull of the evening. We ended up pulling 2 runs each about 220 feet long.
The framing on the stage is coming along. The black boxes are for the rear projection screens.
In this close up you can see the baptistry in the back of the stage.
And finally, the cabinets are going in the kitchen.

They have been doing a little tile work at the new Church. These first two pictures are in one of the frount bathrooms.

They are building the boxes on the stage for the rear projection screens. They will also add some walls to the back of the stage.

I stopped in the road ditch across from the new building to take this picture. I'll probably use it in the anouncements power point.

Tile is being put down. This is in the kitchen.
This is in the fellowship hall looking back toward the kitchen. The ceiling grid is up and the light fixtures have been installed.
These rolls were in the youth room. I believe it is carpet.
Someday we will have Church in here.

All of the lights are installed over the main room. The black ceiling really disappears with the lights on.
One of the Church members is installing the metal railing around the upper deck. You can also see the mounts for basketball goals off to one side.
Instead of sheetrock around the gym area they installed particle board. Brother Flint decided to check it for strength. He's a "healthy" man but they say he just bounced off.
The frame for the suspended ceiling is being installed. This room has also been painted.
This is the paint job in the youth hall and all the class rooms. Either that or someone had a terrible accident with a chain saw.
Here is an overview of the main room. The stage is coming along nicely. The orange boxes on the left are ceramic tile and all the white boxes on the right are the acoustic ceiling tiles.

All the A/C ducts are in, waiting on the suspended ceilings to be installed. Our oldest boy worked this summer for the company that is installing the A/C system. Those ducts may be some of his handiwork.
This baptistery looks mighty narrow. Do you think John E will fit in there?
My wife really likes these doors. There are a lot of them waiting to be installed.
The framework above the stage is going in. The picture is dark but you might be able to see the steel beam across the front.
This picture shows one area that is trimmed out and painted. The color is a light tan. Lynne calls it coffee with a whole lot of cream.

The sheet rock is up in the office area.

These pictures are a little dark. But you can see the sheet rock going up on the tall end wall.
The short wall behind and above the stage is done.
I told Lynne that this room looked like a bunch of horse stalls. It's the womens restroom at the frount of the building.

RAs Meet at New Church

Wednesday night the RA boys met out at the new Church for an archery exhibition presented by Keith Mack.
He is showing the boys a long bow here but he used a compound bow for the demonstrations.We learned some archery terms during the presentation. If you'll notice, one of the shots missed the mark a little high. He did that on purpose. The term used for missing the mark is "sin".
Look close at this picture and you'll notice that he just put an arrow through the middle of a ping pong ball.
Josh helped with this demonstration. They put a balloon between two bags of sand. He shot it with a 30-30 and the bullet didn't pop the balloon. They then added 2 more sand bags to the frount and shot an arrow at the balloon. The arrow went through 3 bags and popped the balloon.
Last he shot an apple off Nathans head! Just kidding. He replaced Nathan with a foam head before he shot.
Good thing he did too. The arrow is going right through the eye of the dummy. Of course he did that on purpose to make a point.
Nathan was glad he got replaced. There was a lot of good shooting and some good spiritual application to what he had done. Hopefully the kids learned a lot.

All of the walls are up surrounding the upper deck.
The men were working on installing the horizontal bracing between the studs. If you can see the men in the picture above it will give you some perspective on how tall those end walls are.
A lot of the sheet rock is up in the classroom areas. This is the adult classroom hallway.

Upstairs Framing- May 15

After a discussion about who was going to get up on that scaffolding 30 feet off the upper deck (plus the distance to the concrete below that), it was decided that we should hire a crew to do that job. Good decision! As of last week they had most of one end up. Those are some tall walls!

I know it's been awhile since the last update. We've been busy with baseball and getting a senior ready for graduation. So here is what's going on.The sprinkler system pipes are up. The nozzles will be installed once the suspended ceilings are up.
There are a lot of pipes running through out the building.
The a/c ductwork is also going up. The crew still has some more work to do before that project is finished.
More of the a/c equipment sitting in the youth room.
We had some sound deadening material donated so Jason has had his men installing what they got.
The ceiling has been painted black so it will disappear above the suspended lights. The first pictures I took of the ceiling were just black. This one has some of the end wall in it so you can see the contrast.

RA Racers

OK, these aren't construction pictures. But I think people would like to see this too.
The county wide RA racer event was held at FBC Maypearl this week. They set the tracks up in the parking lot this year. It would have been a little crowded inside. That's why we're building the new building.

Here are all the trophy winners. The boys had a great time and hopefully learned from the spiritual applications.

Mens Breakfast

The men of the Church met at the new building on Saturday morning to share breakfast and fellowship.I can feel my arteries hardening.

The food was good and prepared by experts.

Someone has to be first in line. That day it was these two.

We sat on the "bleachers" to listen to the presentation.

Mr. Ellis spoke and gave his testimony. A good time was had by everyone. If you're a man you need to be at the next breakfast.

They hung the OSB in the main room. I believe it will be covered in carpet. Since this is also a gym, they wanted something stronger than sheet rock. One of the "big boys" decided to test the strength one night and ran into the wall. They say he bounced off nicely.
They sheet rock is in place above the a/c units as a fire break. If we hadn't done that we would have had to have sprinklers above the suspended ceiling as well as below. Drywall was cheaper than more sprinkler heads.
The electrical wiring is in and ready for drywall. The phone and data lines are also in place.
The frount staircase up to the walking track is half in. Jason was there when I took these picture and said we are now waiting on the sprinkler company to run their pipes and for the a/c company to run their duct work. After that is done we can hang drywall and put up the suspended ceilings.

There has been alot more electrical work since the last time I took pictures. There are many wires running through some of the joists. Jason said they have used over 3 miles of wire so far.

It's a good thing someone is writing down where all these wires go!

Here is MrB helping pull one of the wires into place.

There was sheet rock stacked all around the building. Jason said they should start hanging it on Monday.
Most of the walls have been sprayed with the foam insulation. There was still a little left to do on the kitchen end of the building.

The frount bathrooms were plumbed in.

This door was leaning up at the entrance to the restrooms. Lynne wants it for our house!

A/C ducts are ready and waiting to be installed.

If the load you're trying to get out of the back of the pick-up is more than your forklift can lift, it may require a little redneck ingenuity.
Several of the exterior doors were installed but chained shut.
The electrical work has begun. This is one of the switch boxes in one of the adult classrooms.
The brick and rock on the exterior of the building looks very nice.

Sunday Morning, Feb 24- Services at the New Building

We had our Sunday morning Church service at the new building this morning. They finished the platform for the Praise Team to use. They floor was cleaned up so well you could have eaten off it (You could have, not me).
People started arriving and the room filled up fast. There was a good crowd this morning.
This is looking from the lobby area into the main auditotium. I love the big windows.

There were alot of youth there.

The Praise Team started off the service. After a few sound system problems were worked out the rest of the worship time went very well.
Pastor Tony preached and we had a very good service.
After the service everyone ate their picnic lunches and hung out for awhile. A couple of guys had grills set up in the parking lot. They even set up the bounce houses inside the building. We love all the room!

Wed, Feb 20- RA's meet at the new Church

Wednesday night the RA group met out at the new Church building and had a special guest. They watched some hockey highlights before he spoke.
Al Secord ,a retired NHL hockey player, was there to talk to the boys. He works at American Airlines now with Mr. Morrison. He gave a very good talk to the boys. The dads there enjoyed it too.
He then showed the boys how to shoot a hockey puck. Each of the kids got a shot at the goal.

The paving bricks have been installed at the front door. They look very nice.
The workers are making great progress bricking the exterior of the building.
The bathrooms by the front door are all framed in. Coach Ellis and Mr Bristow where there working when we came in this evening. We talked about the insulation and the A/C system for awhile. Coach Ellis said that it is a new type of A/C system that the Assembly of God camp had installed into one of their dormitories last summer. They monitored the electricity usage in July with the old system and in August, when it was hotter, with the new system. The electricity used in August was one tenth what they used in July! Hopefully this system with the foam insulation will save us allot of money.

As you can see in the photo of the office hall above, the A/C units are being installed. There are many of these small units all around the Church.
Here is a close-up of one of them. They still need to be wired and plumbed.
This is the back wall of the auditorium. It also closed in the hall outside the offices.
In this view from the upper deck you can see from the offices all the way down to the nursery in the far corner.
There is alot of room on this upper deck. For a size comparison, you can just make out my middle son and one of his best friends at the far end of the building.

The walls of the frount office are up and waiting on the ceiling joists to be installed.
This is the nursery where the men were installing the ceiling joists last week. It looks like one of these nursery rooms is as big as the entire nursery at the current building.
The AC units that were in boxes are now laid out awaiting installation. There should be some of them installed by the time I go back to take more pictures.

A Tuesday Night

We stopped by Tuesday night to see how construction was going. As soon as you walk in the front door the offices are on the left. It looks like most of the walls are up in that area.

This is the view back toward the offices from across the building.

You can see the men working off in the distance on the nursery area. They were putting up the ceiling joists in that corner.
It's kinda dark but I didn't want to blind anyone with a flash while they were lifting the beams into place.
Above is the entrance into the youth room. There is a long scripture written there.
The fellowship hall area was full of boxes containing HVAC equipment. There were alot of boxes.

Saturday Work Day

After lunch on Saturday, the wife and I decided to run some errands and go take some pictures at the Church. The first thing I noticed when we drove up was that the bricks had been delivered. I believe there will also be some rock of the exterior.I was told to take a picture of the door, so here is a picture of the door. It keeps the site secure at night I guess.
This is really cool. There are Bible verses written on the studs through out the building. Just one of the steps in committing this building to serve God's purposes and expanding His kingdom.
The crew was at work on the framing when we arrived. Here two of the guys are on a lift to help put up the ceiling joists.
Another couple of guys were cutting wood to length to be nailed up later.
The other framers were working at the other end of the building. I believe these are the 4th-6th grade classrooms.
This last picture is in the youth room. You can see that the spray foam has been sprayed into the walls already. There is a 2x6 wall plus a 2x4 wall filled with foam. It should be well insulated, I've been very happy with the foam Jason sprayed in our attic.

I kept checking the Church web site for construction update pictures and never saw any. So I decided to post my own.
The building is all closed in and all of the windows are in. The outside will be covered with rock and brick eventually.

The new steeple is on top of the drop off area roof. I think it would have looked way to small on the main roof.

The framing behind the back hallway appears to be finished. This corner is the Youth area.

This picture was taken standing outside the Youth room looking down the hallway toward the Adult classrooms.

This is a view of the spray foam insulation that covers the underside of the roof and the end walls.

I just thought the sunlight coming through the window was pretty.

First Sunday Morning Service at the New Church

Steel is Up
